Our job today involves the extensive process of pool demolition and the subsequent backfill with soil. The project at hand features an octagonal inground pool that spans approximately 42 feet across. This particular pool has unfortunately succumbed to neglect, with the bottom now completely overrun by an unsightly mass of weeds, while the surrounding concrete deck is in a state of disrepair, crumbling and deteriorating over time. Given that this pool is no longer functional or safe for use, the most prudent course of action is to fill it in properly. At Schott Services, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of services, including pool fill-ins and other landscaping-related tasks. If you find yourself in need of assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 317-784-8760 or via email at HappyDumpTruck@gmail.com. We are here to help you navigate all your landscaping needs and ensure your outdoor spaces are both beautiful and functional.
The initial step in the process of filling in this pool involves carefully disassembling the existing concrete deck. For this task, we utilize a specialized stump bucket attachment on our Vermeer 925 mini skid steer, which is adept at prying off the concrete panels that line the walls of the pool. There are a total of eight panels to be removed. Once the panels have been successfully pried off from the sides, we strategically lay them down in the center of the pit. This step is crucial as these concrete panels will serve as a foundational support for the topsoil that we plan to use to fill in the pool, ensuring stability and preventing future settling.
Following the disassembly of the deck, we move on to the next critical step: the removal of debris and trash that has accumulated within the pool over the years. A significant portion of this debris consists of metal support bars that were originally installed to help maintain the integrity of the pool’s concrete lining. However, with the concrete now removed, these support bars are no longer necessary. We carefully gather these metal bars from the pool and place them on the grass nearby, preparing them for eventual disposal and hauling away.
Next, we shift our focus back to the concrete panels that we previously laid down within the pool. It is essential to spread these panels out evenly to create a consistent layer of concrete rubble across the bottom of the pit. Using our mini skid steer equipped with the stump bucket, we crush the panels into manageable chunks and distribute them evenly throughout the pit. This process not only aids in the structural integrity of the fill but also helps to create a solid base for the topsoil that will be added next.
Once the concrete rubble has been thoroughly distributed, we proceed to the straightforward yet vital task of pouring in the new topsoil. This part of the process is akin to filling any other hole, but to ensure efficiency, we utilize the large bucket attachment on our Vermeer 925. This powerful tool allows us to scoop up substantial portions of topsoil from our supply truck and deposit them into the hole with remarkable accuracy and speed. As we fill in the hole, it is imperative to remember that simply dumping the topsoil is not enough; we must also ensure that it is smoothed out to facilitate healthy grass growth in the future. To achieve this, we employ our leveler tool, which allows us to spread the soil evenly and create a flat surface. If you take a moment to watch the accompanying video, you’ll notice a significant transformation in the smoothness and uniformity of the ground before and after we utilize the leveler to flatten the earth. Once the ground is perfectly level, our work for this particular project is complete. It is important to note that at Schott Services, we specialize in this type of work regularly, making us seasoned professionals in landscaping projects of this nature.
